ABOUT COMPANY

The Schaeffler Group is a leading global supplier to the automotive and industrial sectors. The portfolio includes precision components and systems in the engine, gearboxes and chassis as well as rolling bearing and plain bearing solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. With innovative and long-term technologies in the areas of electromobility, digitization and industry 4.0, Schaeffler is already making a significant contribution to „Tomorrow’s Mobility“ today. With more than 2,400 patent applications in 2018, Schaeffler ranked second among Germany’s innovative companies according to the DPMA (Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt).

From the beginning, Schaeffler has been influenced by progressive innovations and a global customer orientation. The cornerstone for the current group of companies was laid by the brothers Dr. Wilhelm Schaeffler and Dr.-Ing. E.h. Georg Schaeffler in 1946 with the founding of Industrie GmbH. The rise of the business began when Dr. Georg Schaeffler invented the needle cage in 1949, and soon after, INA produced cage-guided needle roller bearings in large quantities for the German automotive industry.

In 1965, the Schaeffler brothers were co-founders of LuK lamellae and the clutch production company GmbH in Bühle. With the first innovative product – a disc spring clutch – the company has become a technological leader in this market. LuK, as one of the largest clutch manufacturers in the world and a specialist in drive mechanisms, has belonged entirely to the Schaeffler Group since 1999.

The FAG brand is inextricably linked to the rolling bearing industry. In 1883, Friedrich Fischer designed a ball mill in Schweinfurt, with which he was able to machine steel balls for the first time with high precision and a large number of pieces. This idea is considered to be the historic start of the rolling bearing industry. FAG has been a registered trademark since 1905. In 2001, FAG took over Schaeffler and, together with INA and LuK, is now an essential part of the global group.

Langen-based Automotive Aftermarket was founded in 1976. It is responsible for the worldwide spare parts business and provides innovative repair solutions in the quality of direct suppliers. The REPXPERT online portal provides comprehensive service services for workshops, such as the implementation of practice-oriented training, assistance with repairs via the hotline or workshop portal, as well as the development of special tools.

The main development companies of the Schaeffler Group are the German sites of Herzogenaurach, Schweinfurt and Bühl, which are connected to other development centers in Europe, Asia as well as North and South America.
