The project partners (organisations from Albania, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Lithuania,
Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine aimed to approach education
to combat discrimination based on a theory that brought a certain educational plus because it
allowed a careful and in-depth analysis of the phenomenon of discrimination is that of
“broken windows” (George L. Kelling, James Q. Wilson, 1982), born in the confluence of
experimental psychology with sociology, a theory that teaches the lesson of cause and effect,
the inevitable consequences of words and deeds and argues that initially small mistakes,
neglect lead to abandonment, lack of civility , immoral or illegal behavior.
The operational objectives were to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the theory of broken
windows and discovering ways to apply it on the issue of discrimination; to increase their
working skills with young people by experimenting with methods, techniques, types of
activities for applying the theory of broken windows to the problem of discrimination; to
develop a proactive attitude and behavior towards youth work in the field of education to
combat discrimination achieved by applying the theory of broken windows, by designing and
implementing an awareness campaign and a youth education programme.
The methods were specific to non-formal education and develop creativity and involvement:
knowledge and trust exercises; reflection exercises, PP presentations; open space, round
table, group workshops, cafe learning; forum theatre, role playing, simulation; watching short
films.
