EMforMe, Slovakia

Our projects

In the picturesque village of Oščadnica, in the north of Slovakia, on 08. 06. 2018 were people assembling next to a boarding house near the centre to participate on Erazmus+ project EMforMe (Employment for me). Team of six young organizers had been working very hard before in order to make everything ready for participants from five countries, which were included in the project, and that Romania, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. Altogether 36 Europeans could not wait to see all the activities which would lead them till the end of the whole stay, 17. 06. 2018.

On the first day the introducing games were waiting for them, so they could get rid of their worries and shyness. Starting with the next day they could fully enjoy the project in highly-friendly atmosphere. Relationships were created quickly. It was not only due games and coffee-breaks or sobremesa, but also educative parts of the project, which were often interactive and required teamwork.

The main idea of Erazmus+ is multiculturalism and its understanding by different nations. This project was based on this idea, too. As people are used to, every second evening participants were able to try atmosphere of cultures of present countries on so called cultural evenings. The first cultural evening was, of course, dedicated to hosting country, Slovakia, where usual eating of halušky (Slovakia national dish) was improved by showing of typical Slovak historical costumes and other interesting things.

The major part of the program was to educate the young in selected topics of the whole project. Thanks skillful and friendly team of volunteers, participants were given knowledge from workshops, open discussions, presentations and many more. The information was given by many methods so everybody could be satisfied, but always in very interesting way.

The program was various, indeed, since the already busy schedule was enriched with trips in order to see also different places around Oščadnica. The participants were even taken to Budatín and the famous place of breathtaking view.

The organizers were doing their best to create the whole program so everybody could be happy. They wanted to make sure they did well, participants were asked to leave evaluations. The ratings brought our organizers good feeling of very well done work. In these letters were not only words of glory about the project and everything, but also assertive opinions and new ideas, even visible improvement of English language skills. It was the language of the project (we do not count cultural evening where participans were introduced with tongue twisters of the countries). In the very last question “if you could travel in time, would you participate on this project one more time?” were many long or short answers, but every one of them meant the same – Where is the time machine, please?

Starting with the basics
01-08.12 2016, Messini –Greece, 38 participants

Youth exchange „Starting with the basics“, which took place in Messini, Greece, was intended for youth without any prior experience with exchanges. It was attended by 6 participants from Slovakia, with other 18-24 years old participants from Greece, Sweden, Spain and Croatia. The aim was to create the basis and values that each new participant has to know during his/her first participation in programs Youth Exchange Erasmus+.

During the project the non-formal education and values were strengthened and emphasis was put into the active participation of young people. Methods used in the exchange were indoor and outdoor activities, brainstorming, practical learning, teamwork, simulations, role-play. It was obviously good getting to know the functioning of the youth exchanges and for the participants all games and learning methods were new and therefore very interesting.

Our Slovak group represented us very well, especially during the cultural evening, where the main goal was to teach others about the culture of their country through traditional delicacies, dance, music or video.

We believe that the Slovak group liked their first youth Exchange and there is a big assumption, that like many of us, who already tried a youth Exchange, a day after the projects they would also scroll down the Facebook with the objective to find new exchange, to travel, to see, to find new friends from all over the world, but especially learn something new.

„Minorities in action“
October 1st – 12th, 2016, Narva-Jõesuu, Estonia, 42 participants from 5 countries

We spent two weeks of holidays in Estonia on Youth Exchange with a topic of minorities in action. We were focused on many types of minorities in society such as language, ethnical or religion groups and their influence on politics and vice versa. We didn’t miss the hot topic of immigrants in European countries.  Moreover we discussed tolerance in society and its dealing with sexual minorities and we compared the situation in different states. Age discrimination was mentioned too. We tried to figure out how to integrate those groups and disadvantaged people and how to make quality of their lives better. Our aim was to show the advantages of integration for society.

“Job me”
20. – 27. 06.2016, Calimanesti, Romania, 30 participants from 5 countries

At the end of June, six Slovak went to Romania to participate in the project under the name “Job me”. The participants had the opportunity to visit the capital city Bucharest one day before the project, from where they took 4-hour trip to the mountain town Calimanesti. The whole program of youth exchange was about the employability, or unemployability. The activities were focused on the skills one needs to have when looking for the job, participants were introduced how the labor market in the EU works, they exchanged the knowledge about the current situation in the states and talked about the business opportunities and how to encourage young people to start their own business. The interesting day of getting to know foreign cultures was the day of the visit of the library in the near town Ramnicu Valcea because it was a holiday, when all women wore the traditional costumes. Later they visited the local museum and a local company taught them what “social entrepreneurship” is. It was again one rewarding project.

What the participants say about the project?

“I experienced what was expected from these projects – I met interesting people, visited the country and learned more about the issue of the project topic. I am looking forward to further cooperation with the organisation SYTEV, which was smooth.“  Natália, the project participant

“Successful youth”
02. – 12. 01.2016, Daugirdiškes, Lithuania, 36 participants from 6 countries

SYTEV started year 2016 with six Slovaks on the youth exchange in Lithuania just on the second day of this year. By the topic ,,Successful youth“ , the organizers tried to show us our concerns – young people and our occasional lack of motivation. If our motivation is not missing, we look for the opportunities how to be better. During 11 days we tried to overcome our fears and discuss about them with people of the same age from Europe. We listened to several stories of successful people that taught us and helped us in our development. We believe that this project helped us in finding way to meet our diverse goals. In addition to valuable knowledge, we take with us lots of experience and memories about the capital cities Warsaw and Vilnius, and also about the low temperatures, which didn´t avoid us in these Baltic countries.

Finally, the evaluation of the project from Slovak participant Kristina:
„I liked that the project went deeply in the details. It really gave me a lot of motivation. I met new and interesting people. I get to know new cultures and customs of other countries. I tasted traditional dishes and visited really nice places“

10. – 16. 10.2015, London, UK, 21 participants from 3 countries

Busy London was in October the hosting place for youth Exchange inspired by the movie with the same title “North of the Sun.” The film impressed the organizers so much, that they started to think how they could experience something similar. And so it was born this exchange. The aim of the project was among other things to strengthen the skills of young people, their employment opportunities and try to modernize current situation in the field of youth work. There were used the methods of non-formal education, such as learning by doing, but also learning through film, particularly film depicting the situation of the European seas. There was shown the bad treatment of seas, commitment to their rescue with people from other countries and at the same time the desire to inspire others to create similar film or the exhibition of the photography from their own experience. The participants received Youthpass and Europass, but also „John Muir Award”, which is the award for the education in the nature.
